Life's a Trip in Okawville

Okawville, IL is a small town bursting with tradition and things to do and see. At just an hour and a half outside of St. Louis, Okawville makes a great day trip and an even better overnight visit.  


The city of Okawville was originally founded in 1838 and named Bridgeport. When the German's immigrated there in the 1870s they renamed the community. To this day you can still notice the community's German heritage. Okawville is host to many great events throughout the year. In the summer you won't want to miss Okawville Heritage Days where the town welcomes visitors to celebrate their German heritage with live music, great food, and activities for the kids. In the fall, you can check out the Wheat Fair and Festival. This three-day festival celebrates Okawville a number one crop with several events including the wheat queen pageant, live shows, craft vendors and more.

Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course

Along with the great events in this small town are several attractions. For the history buff visiting Okawville, there are many historic homes located within the city limits. These museums include the Dr. Poos Home, The Schlosser Home, and The Schlosser Brick House. For the sportsman, your trip to Okawville isn't complete without a trip to Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course. This course is 18 holes featuring multiple tees to allow players of all skill sets a great game of golf. This course is known for its variety where the first 9 holes follow the natural lay of the land and the back 9 has more of a links-style layout.

Make sure to stop by one of the several restaurants. For lunch, we recommend Bunker's Bar and Grill located on the golf course. They have great pizza, Bunker Burgers, and a kids menu. For dinner check out The Boiler Room Restaurant located in the Original Springs Hotel. Start with homemade onion rings, prime rib or stuffed shrimp for the main course, or a Boiler Room Rueben.
