2. Gingerbread Festivities

Belleville is home to the most Gingerbread events in Southern Illinois. The 28th Annual Gingerbread Contest allows participants to enter their confection creations to be judged for prize money prior to being displayed. Downtown merchant windows come alive with these entries from November 22-January 1st, so don’t miss your chance to see these amazing works of art. Another gingerbread activity for the active Belleville visitor is the 11th Annual Gingerbread Run on December 2nd. Participants will run (or walk) with the Gingerbread Man though downtown Belleville. Click here to register for the event. The last event that brings the world of Gingerbread to center stage is the Gingerbread Cookie Day on Saturday, December 9th. Guests purchase a Cookie Bag and collect cookies from the businesses along Main Street. Visitors must pre-register for this event so there will be enough of these delicious cookies. 3. Christkindlmarkt

The Christkindlmarkt is a Belleville staple event for the holiday season. A Christkindlmarkt is an open air German Market and in this case, it takes over the Belleville Public Square. There are European vendors, German food and drinks, and live entertainment. The market is open daily (see full hours below) and there are also daily sights such as the 11-foot-tall Glockenspiel Clock Sand Sculpture and live reindeer on select days. Admission is free. The opening day ceremony of the Christkindlmarkt is November 24th at 6pm. Visitors will enjoy the lighting of the Fountain, the reading of a Proclamation by the Christkind and a Free concert by Head East starting at 7pm.   For more information about all the events please click here or call 800-677-9255.
