I make art. I do not, as a rule, paint on a blank white gessoed canvas, but instead I mostly dye and paint on blank white cotton cloth. I create contemporary abstract works by creating surface design on cloth. That may involve dyeing, dye painting, screening with dye, discharge dyeing, stamping and other processes needed to express my ideas. Layering processes creates a most interesting surface and can even be a way of reclaiming something that previously may have gone awry. I am a bit of a purist, preferring to make my own cloth as the integral part of my artistic expression. I also work intuitively, preferring serendipity to planning and details. Life has too much planning and details. I do not care to engage in it in my art.
