Spend some time this weekend celebrating the Winter Solstice at Cahokia Mounds. During each solstice, visitors gather to celebrate the season with a Sunrise Observance. The next event is Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 7:00AM.

A solstice happens twice a year when the sun is at its most northerly or southerly point. This day in the summer is in June and Winter is in December. The Summer Solstice has the most sunlight of the year and the Winter Solstice has the least amount of sunlight.
